Bladt Industries has awarded a contract to Seaway Heavy Lifting for transportation and installation of a substation at the 288MW Sandbank offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

The substation is expected to be installed at the offshore farm in 2016 by the Stanislav Yudin vessel. It will consist of jacket, skirt piles and deck.

The offshore project will involve an investment of around €1.2bn. It will be jointly built by Vattenfall and the city of Munich public utility Stadtwerke München.

Located 90km west of the Sylt island in water depths between 25m and 37m, the wind project will be within the exclusive economic zone off the German North Sea coast, and will be equipped with 72 of Siemens Energy’s SWT-4.0-130 turbines.

The project has been scheduled to start power generation in 2017.

When operational, the farm is expected to supply 1.4TW/h of energy annually for approximately 400,000 homes.
