Finland-based oil refining and renewable fuels producer Neste has launched futuristic education concept EduCycle, which shows a real-life simulation of the world and the role of the carbon cycle.

EduCycle is part of the company’s Pre-order the Future project, which will choose products or service developments for further development later this year. The project aims to create an innovation product to increase awareness of the possibilities of renewable materials.

The winner of Pre-order the Future will move into the prototyping phase to be published early next year.

Neste’s EduCycle is a modular learning kit developed primarily out of renewable materials. It is an interactive, holographic simulation where children will be able to change the virtual landscape by playing with the moving parts of the kit.

"The winner of Pre-order the Future will move into the prototyping phase to be published early next year."

Neste's communications and brand marketing senior vice-president Osmo Kammonen said: “EduCycle teaches kids to understand how their actions can change the world either for better or worse.

“Our planet’s future is highly dependent on how our children will learn to manage their carbon footprint.”

As part of the first lesson of EduCycle, the children will visualise the carbon cycle, which involves removal of cars from the landscape or replacement of existing coal power projects with new wind power plants, demonstrating a positive change in the cycle.

Neste uses an augmented reality (AR) solution to enhance the effect of the simulation in a bid to deliver a clearer and deeper learning experience.
