Ofgem has granted Balfour Beatty Equitix Consortium (BBEC) with a licence to operate a £160m high-voltage link to the Humber Gateway windfarm for 20 years.
BBEC is a consortium consisting of Balfour Beatty Investments and Equitix. It was chosen by Ofgem after a tender process, which saw bidders competing to become offshore transmission owners.

By GlobalDataHumber Gateway windfarm is located in the North Sea, around 8km off the coast of Yorkshire. It has 73 wind turbines and a combined installed capacity of 219MW.
E.ON Climate & Renewables UK Humber Wind constructed the transmission assets for the farm.
The windfarm is the second and final project tendered under the third tender round, which has delivered £333m of transmission assets in total.
Ofgem and the Department of Energy and Climate Change set up the OFTO regime in 2009 and since then, it has attracted almost £3bn in addition to leading to significant savings in the costs of delivering offshore wind.
