By GlobalDataThe 74.5MW Duette Solar Power Plant will cover approximately 520 acres of land in Manatee County, Florida. It will use nearly 227,000 single-axis tracking solar panels to generate enough electricity for around 23,000 homes annually.
Elsewhere, the Charlie Creek Solar Power Plant will occupy 610 acres of land area in Hardee County. This 74.9MW facility will feature around 235,000 single-axis tracking solar panels for another 23,000 homes.
Finally, the Archer Solar Power Plant will be developed on 630 acres in Alachua County. It will use 220,000 single-axis tracking solar panels, the least of the three, to generate 74.9MW.
In a statement, the company said the projects would create nearly 200 to 300 temporary jobs during the construction period. The facilities will be owned, operated and maintained by Duke Energy Florida when they are finished in 2021.
Duke Energy Florida president Catherine Stempien said: “The Archer, Duette and Charlie Creek solar power plants will complete Duke Energy Florida’s commitment to customers to provide 700MW of clean, green energy by 2022.
“Once operational, our solar power plants will eliminate nearly 3 billion pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year. The sun shines bright here in Florida, and we are committed to making more solar investments in the years to come.”
The company has recently completed two new facilities in Florida, including the Columbia Solar Power Plant in Columbia County, and the DeBary Solar Power Plant in Volusia County.
