The project generates 410,476MWh electricity and supplies enough clean energy to power 40,000 households, offsetting 254,125t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year. The project cost is $344m.
The Tubular Steel towers installed at the project site are 80m high.
Development Status
The project is currently active. The project construction commenced in 2018 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in July 2021.
Power Purchase Agreement
The power generated from the project is sold to Kenya Power and Lighting under a power purchase agreement. The power is sold at the rate of $0.11kWh for a period of 20 years. The contracted capacity is 100MW.
Contractors Involved
China Machinery Engineering and Worley were selected to render EPC services for the wind power project.
GE Renewable Energy was selected as the turbine supplier for the wind power project. The company provided 60 units of 1.7-103 turbines, each with 1.7MW nameplate capacity.
GE Renewable Energy is the O&M contractor for the wind power project. The operation and maintenance contract commenced from 2021, for a period of 15 years.
