Toronto, February 6, 2003 (NYSE: CGT; TSX: CAE) CAE, a world leader in the supply of power plant simulators, today announced that Southern California Edison (SCE) has once again chosen the ROSE® graphical modeling environment for the upgrade of its Unit 2 simulator at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS).
SONGS Unit 2 is an 1100 MW Combustion Engineering pressurized water reactor (PWR), one of two operational reactors at the generating station located on the Pacific coast near San Clemente, California.
‘Southern California Edison was one of CAE’s first customers to embrace the ROSE® concept,’ said Rashid Khan, CAE’s Executive Vice President, Marine and Power Systems. ‘CAE’s latest ROSE® 4 and other updated simulation technologies being adopted by SCE will set new standards in power plant simulation.’
Under the first phase of the upgrade program, CAE will replace the simulator’s legacy computers with a Windows-based system running CAE’s simulator executive SimStudio™. CAE will also supply an updated instructor station, replacing a Unix-based system with the most recent release of CAE’s Windows-based Isis™.
The second phase involves the replacement of the Reactor Core model, upgraded with CAE’s high fidelity COMET™, and auto-generated within CAE’s powerful Chorus™ graphic utility. As well, the Reactor Coolant System (RCS) and Containment models will be replaced with improved ROSE® 4-based models.
