Romanian power plant flue gasDoosan Lentjes and Elsaco Electronic, a consortium of companies, were awarded a turnkey contract by CET Govora SA to retrofit a power station in Romania with a modern flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) system.

The contract requires the wet limestone FGD technology to be applied for the two coal-fired boilers C5 and C6 each with a capacity of 345MWth.

The retrofit project will allow the customer to exceed the requirements of the European legislation as per the Directive 2010/75/EU on industrial emissions (Industrial Emissions Directive – IED): with sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions that are far below the, in this case, today legally required 200mg /Nm3 on a standard basis.

The plant will have the flexibility to comply with, in future, even stricter environmental standards. These are expected to be derived from the continuous review and update of the BREF (Best Available Techniques Reference) documents in the framework of the European IED directive.

In this context, Clemens Einicke, Bid Manager at Doosan Lentjes, comments: “With the significantly low SO2 emissions values to be achieved, we will help CET Govora SA to secure long-term operation permissions for their two boilers.

“This supports our client in achieving a successful long-term business performance, while also ensuring a safe and environmentally sound industrial steam and district heat supply for the industrial site nearby and local citizens.”

Frank Oberheid, Product Director for Air Quality Control Systems at Doosan Lentjes, adds: This current project is the second FGD contract we have secured in cooperation with our partner Elsaco Electronic in Romania over the last four years. This emphasises our efforts to developing long-term, mutually fruitful relationships with our local partners to the benefit of final clients.”

The scope of Doosan Lentjes’ work in the consortium includes engineering, the delivery of key equipment, as well as, advisory services for both erection and commissioning.

Doosan Lentjes is a specialist in the delivery of proven and reliable air pollution control technologies, helping customers across the global utility, municipality and industrial sectors to achieve cleaner power generation.
