ENGESP, a prominent energy company in Goiás, Brazil, is thrilled to announce a strategic partnership with HYDROGRID, a Vienna-based leader in digital hydropower optimization, to boost operational efficiency and sustainability at the PCH Porto Franco hydropower plant. This partnership will address critical needs in areas such as water management, spill reduction, and handling weather variability through state-of-the-art digital solutions.

Managing weather variability and minimizing spillages are two primary challenges for local hydropower facilities. The ‘HYDROGRID Insight’ platform, featuring advanced forecasting tools, will be employed to address these issues, enabling optimal water use and reducing spillage. This capability will support ENGESP’s goals for consistent and efficient energy generation at Porto Franco.

This project is part of ENGESP’s larger strategy to digitize and optimize its hydropower assets for sustainable energy production. Rodolfo Martin, CEO of Engenharia São Patrício, shared, “Implementing HYDROGRID Insight aligns with our mission to enhance hydropower efficiency. By minimizing spillages and improving data management, we aim to set new benchmarks for hydropower efficiency in the region.”

Janice Goodenough, CEO of HYDROGRID, expressed her excitement about the partnership, saying, “Our collaboration with ENGESP reflects our dedication to using advanced technology for sustainable energy. Partnerships like this are essential for effective water management, especially in minimizing spillages and optimizing resource utilization.”

Together with HYDROGRID, ENGESP will implement various modules, from full cascade optimization to connecting plants with inflow management, with project activities set to commence in September 2024.
