The New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts professional American football teams weren’t the only power on display at Sun Life Field in Miami in Super Bowl XLIV in February 2010. That’s because Aggreko, the global leader in temporary power generation, temperature control and oil-free compressed air solutions, provided large-scale power-generation and temperature control for professional American football’s annual championship game and half-time show. Aggreko also provided the same services for last weekend’s professional American football all-star game.

Following months of planning and preparation, Aggreko Event Services (AES), the major events division of Aggreko North America, will be responsible for powering everything from lighting and video during The Who’s halftime performance, to stadium security. AES will also be providing power and temperature control to the domestic and international media compounds that are broadcasting the event worldwide to the largest television, internet and radio audiences in more than 200 countries.

“Our experienced team has put together an outstanding game plan that will ensure uninterrupted power, comfort and security for this year’s championship, surrounding events and broadcast,” said David Prince, project manager for Aggreko Event Services.

As well as providing rental power to the big game and halftime show, security and broadcast compounds, Aggreko is also powering both teams’ practice facilities and several celebration sites and VIP areas. An event of this magnitude requires an enormous amount of time and equipment. Aggreko’s national network of more than 50 service centers will provide:

  • Enough Aggreko generators and power distribution for 30,000 medium-sized homes
  • 400t of heating and cooling
  • More than 47 miles of cable — enough to stretch across 83 American football fields, or from Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens to Delray Beach

The team of 12 Aggreko employees began the lengthy process of installing the complex array of equipment more than a month prior to the game.

Aggreko Event Services is highly experienced in providing reliable electrical power and climate-control solutions for television broadcasts, movie productions, the world’s largest sporting events, concert tours and major corporate events. Aggreko has a long history of powering the most high-profile events in the world, including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the 2009 US Presidential Inauguration, the Daytona 500, and the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
