Machining on a train bridge mid-construction is demanding. Field System Machining (FSM) has completed several train bridge field machining projects in the past few years, and has recently taken on the tougher challenge of machining on train bridges in active service.
The particular train bridge was moveable, which allowed it to rise up to enable boats to pass underneath it. Our machinists worked on the top of this moveable bridge, machining a relief into a bearing housing. When trains approached, our machining was stopped and our machine removed. Then, the middle section of the bridge was lowered, our machinists waited up top for the train to cross, and the bridge was returned to its raised position, before machining could resume.
FSM is also expert at machinery repair on solid ground, having performed steel mill machinery repair, steel mill turnaround and steel mill outage work for over 30 years.
A recent project involved machining from a top face of 9/16" and from the vertical inside faces, with 1/2" material on all three pinion stands, for installation of new pre fabricated "L" liners. In total 3 sets of bed rails were machined. In addition to machining the horizontal and angled rail beds for acceptance of the liners, we also drilled, tapped and installed the liners into the newly machined rail beds to se the portable mining machine.
