Danvers, MA – Babcock Power Environmental Inc. (BPEI) located in Worcester, MA, a subsidiary of Babcock Power Inc. (BPI), based in Danvers, MA, has the exclusive Distribution Agreement in the United States and Canada with Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH (RBB) of Cologne, Germany to offer Activated Lignite HOK, enabling Babcock Power to continue expanding its portfolio of product offerings in the field of air pollution control. Activated Lignite HOK is used for mercury emission control in coal-fired power plants, as well as gas cleaning processes in municipal waste and industrial waste refuse incineration plants, and is one of the most cost effective service proven products available. BPEI has commitments to furnish HOK for twelve different plants in North America.
BPEI has exclusive rights in the USA to distribute the HOK carbon products, and provide storage and injection systems in the market of flue gas cleaning processes. HOK products are being used worldwide in more than 400 waste management facilities to control mercury and dioxin emissions, as well as in several RWE Power coal-fired power plants for mercury control. Due to a high customer demand for individual delivery quantities, not only in Germany but also abroad, RBB has built a new packaging plant at Fortuna-Nord in the Rhenish lignite mining area. This ultramodern plant will output rotary hearth furnace coke (HOK) to meet the customer’s container, packaging and transport needs. This new facility is located in the immediate vicinity of RWE’s manufacturing facility, with an annual capacity of 200,000t of HOK. RWE Power AG is the parent company of RBB.
According to Jim Dougherty, President of Babcock Power Environmental Inc. “We see a tremendous opportunity to provide integrated environmental solutions to our clients facing the upcoming multi-pollutant regulations for SO2, NOx, and mercury. Our most recent application of this technology, in a multi-pollutant environment, is already successfully reducing the emissions of a New York coal-fired power plant.”
Dr. Hans-Joachim Scharf, Managing Director of RBB stated “This Agreement expands our world wide distribution system of Activated Lignite HOK and is an opportunity for RBB and RWE to continue to enhance its technology base.”
