A notice to proceed with the wind farm’s construction was issued to a consortium of GE Renewable Energy and Elecnor last month.

The facility will be equipped with 75 GE 5.5-158 Cypress wind turbines and be linked with ElectraNet’s Robertstown substation via a new transmission line.

It is expected to come online in 2024, with major construction works set to begin in the second quarter of this year.

Goyder South Stage I is the first stage of the Goyder Renewables Zone.

Located near Burra in South Australia’s Mid North region, the Goyder Renewables Zone will feature wind, solar and energy storage projects.

It has received development approval for 1,200MW of wind, 600MW of solar and 900MW of battery storage capacity, making it South Australia’s largest renewable energy project.

Neoen chairman and CEO Xavier Barbaro said: “We are thrilled to break ground at Goyder, which is the most ambitious project in Neoen’s portfolio.

“Goyder perfectly illustrates Neoen’s approach; the creation of highly competitive large-scale renewable energy product offerings, which deliver value for multiple customers.

“Boosted by now having 5.4GW of assets in operation or under construction, we are more confident than ever in our ability to achieve our target of 10GW in 2025.”

Goyder South Stage I is expected to create 400 jobs during its construction phase, as well as 12 permanent positions upon completion.

Neoen plans to sell a significant portion of clean energy generated by the wind facility under long-term power purchase agreements.

The company has already signed a 14-year contract with Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Government to deliver 100MW of clean energy.

Last month, Neoen finalised a consortium to build the Capital Battery storage system in the ACT.
