French company EDF’s plan to construct a 3.2GW nuclear plant, in partnership with China’s CGN, at Sizewell, UK, has come under further scrutiny, The Financial Times reported on Tuesday.
Although Prime Minister Tony Blair endorsed a set of new nuclear power stations in the country in 2006, their use has been widely debated by the public ever since.
Most recently, it was the planning application for the Sizewell C plant that provoked more questions. Debate is reportedly focused on whether Britain needs more large-scale nuclear plants and China’s role in the UK infrastructure, following disagreement over Beijing’s interference in Hong Kong.
