The top five companies accounted for 34% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that ABB filed the most robotics patents within the power industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 37 robotics-related patents in the quarter, compared with 43 in the previous quarter. It was followed by State Grid Corporation of China with 27 robotics patent filings, China Southern Power Grid (20 filings), and Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) (17 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 39% share of total patent filings
The largest share of robotics related patent filings in the power industry in Q3 2024 was in China with 39%, followed by the US (20%) and Australia (1%). The share represented by China was 36% lower than the 74% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
