Yunlin offshore wind farm in Taiwan is now fully operational

Its output will be purchased by the Taiwan Power Company under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

Yunlin offshore wind farm, managed by Yunneng Wind Power, has commenced commercial operations following the installation of all 80 wind turbine generators.

Yunneng Wind Power is a joint venture involving Skyborn Renewables, TotalEnergies, the Electricity Generating Public Company (EGCO) and the Sojitz Corporation.

The 640MW project, located in the Taiwan Strait between 8km and 17km offshore Yunlin County, is now supplying electricity to the Taiwanese grid.

Covering 82km², the wind farm's turbines are strategically placed in water depths between 7m and 35m. The generated electricity is transmitted to the Taiwanese power grid through two onshore substations close to Taixi and Sihu townships.

The Taiwan Power Company has secured the output of the Yunlin offshore wind farm under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

TotalEnergies senior vice-president for renewables Olivier Jouny stated: "We are pleased with the completion of the Yunlin offshore wind farm, which is now producing at its planned capacity. The 640MW project, realised together with our partners, will help Taiwan reach its 2025 target of 5.7GW of offshore wind power.

“This achievement, which contributes to the growth of free cash flow from our electricity business, marks a new step towards TotalEnergies' goal of exceeding 100 terawatt hours (TWh) of net electricity production by 2030."

The Yunlin wind farm will produce 2,400 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean energy annually, sufficient to power 600,000 homes in the region.

This energy contribution will satisfy 90% of Yunlin County's non-industrial electricity demand and is projected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 1.2 million tonnes each year.

EGCO Group president Jiraporn Sirikum stated: “We especially thank the Taiwanese government for their continuous support in all aspects of the project. The achievement also fulfils EGCO Group's business strategy that addresses sustainable growth across all dimensions by balancing business opportunities, profitability and our low-carbon organisational targets."
