VSB Finland has secured the final permit for the construction of a 350MW wind farm, a significant part of the 450MW Puutionsaari wind/solar hybrid project in North Ostrobothnia.
This is a significant milestone for the company, leading to the launch of VSB's largest renewable energy project and one of Europe's largest hybrid park projects.
VSB Finland managing director Seppo Tallgren stated: “A comprehensive hybrid park also enables other new technologies, such as the production of green hydrogen, through more consistent power generation.
“I am proud of the entire project team and look forward to realising this utterly exceptional project for Europe’s energy transition.”
The project's centrepiece, the Puutionsaari wind farm, will feature 49 turbines generating 350MW of power.
The wind farm will be complemented by a 100MWp [megawatt peak] solar farm, which is set to receive full approval by autumn 2024.
The project will produce enough renewable electricity to power 337,500 four-person households.
Construction will begin in 2025, and it is expected to be commissioned by 2028.
VSB Group CEO Dr Felix Grolman stated: “Combining solar and wind energy in hybrid projects is an absolutely vital technology if we are to achieve a comprehensive energy transition.
“At well over €500m, the level of investment in this project is staggering. We are proud of our 100 % track record in Finland and look forward to completing another successful project.”
