TechnipFMC and Prysmian have entered a collaboration agreement to enhance the development of floating offshore wind energy, aiming to deliver an end-to-end solution from the seabed to the ocean surface.

The partnership will combine TechnipFMC's expertise in system design and integration for dynamic offshore environments with Prysmian's leadership in submarine power cable systems.

Prysmian CEO Massimo Battaini stated: “This agreement is a great example of a solid cooperation between two industry leaders. Prysmian’s leadership is defined by our unwavering commitment to innovation.

“Our tailor-made solutions for customers reinforce our capabilities to deliver groundbreaking technology worldwide, helping to drive the global energy transition.”

The collaboration intends to optimise project delivery through a comprehensive engineering, procurement, construction and installation commercial model.

The companies believe that an integrated approach to mooring, anchoring and cable systems, both inter-array and export, will improve project economics and reduce execution risks.

TechnipFMC chair and CEO Doug Pferdehirt stated: “We are excited to partner with Prysmian, the worldwide leader in cabling solutions for the energy transition and digital transformation.

“The collaboration strengthens both companies’ position in this emerging market by providing an integrated solution that accelerates time to first power and reduces cost, while improving overall system reliability.

“This innovative subsea offering will create significant value for our customers and further differentiate TechnipFMC as the leading architect for offshore energy.”

In July 2024, Prysmian secured a €450m finance contract from EIB to strengthen electricity transmission across Europe.

The Italian cable manufacturer plans to use the funds to set up new production lines for extra-high-voltage submarine cables, upgrade onshore cables, and improve existing lines.

The EIB investment will allow Prysmian to double its production capacity for extruded cables at its factories in Pikkala, Finland, in Pozzuoli, Italy and in Gron, France.
