Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has signed an MOU with the Government of Gujarat to build 10GW of renewable energy projects in the state.

The MOU was signed at the Vibrant Gujarat event in the presence of representatives from the company and the government.

The 10GW of renewable energy projects will include solar, wind, hybrid, round-the-clock, peak, and firm and dispatchable renewable energy projects.

The projects will be built on 50,000 acres (20,234 hectares) of encumbrance-free government land across the state.

The projects entail a total investment potential of Rs700bn and will create employment opportunities for 3,000 people.

In early January 2024, TPREL also signed two MOUs with the Tamil Nadu Government.

It plans to invest Rs708bn in renewable energy projects in the state, further contributing to India's clean energy transition.

The company aims to develop 10GW of renewable energy projects over the next five to seven years under the first MOU. The projects will be built on 50,000 acres of land.

The second MOU focuses on the expansion of TPREL's existing MOU, signed in July 2022.

The company aimed to invest Rs30bn in 4GW of solar cell and solar module manufacturing facilities in the Tirunelveli district.

TPREL has revised the investment amount from Rs30bn to Rs38bn while increasing the facilities' capacity to 4.3GW.

In August 2023, Tata Power signed an MOU with the State Government of Maharashtra to develop two pumped hydro storage projects with 2.8GW of capacity.

The two projects at Shirawta in Pune and Bhivpuri in Raigad will have 1.8GW and 1GW of capacity, respectively.
