Renalfa IPP, a Vienna-based renewable energy company, has acquired a 258MWac (megawatt of alternating current) solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Teleorman, Romania.

The move is part of Renalfa IPP's strategic commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions in central and eastern Europe (CEE) and marks a significant expansion of Romania's renewable energy portfolio.

The Teleorman solar project, scheduled for commercial operation in 2027, is set to contribute to Romania's decarbonisation goals and enhance the country's energy security.

In a forward-looking step, Renalfa IPP plans to integrate 1,000 megawatt-hours of battery energy storage system (BESS) assets to improve grid stability and optimise renewable energy utilisation.

With the addition of advanced energy storage capabilities to the Teleorman project, Renalfa IPP aims to support regional economic growth and create new green jobs.

With this initiative, the company aims to contribute to a cleaner energy future and play a key role in the CEE energy market.

Renalfa IPP, established as a joint venture between Renalfa Solarpro Group and French infrastructure fund manager RGREEN INVEST, owns and develops a diverse portfolio of PV, BESS and wind projects.

The company's presence spans Bulgaria, Hungary, North Macedonia and Romania, with a joint capacity of approximately 2GW.

This includes around 300MW that are already operational, 460MW under construction and 1GW in late-stage development.

Renalfa IPP spokesman Dr Nikola Antonov said: “We are thrilled to finalise the acquisition of this landmark project in Romania.

“This project is a testament to our commitment to driving the energy transition in the CEE region and delivering innovative, renewable energy solutions that address the challenges of tomorrow.”
