Eni subsidiary Plenitude has entered a strategic partnership with BlueFloat Energy and Sener Renewable Investments to develop offshore wind projects in Spain.
The alliance enhances the joint venture (JV) established by BlueFloat and Sener Renewable Investments in 2020 to develop 1.25GW of floating offshore wind projects.
The consortium has a portfolio of projects including Parque Nordés in Galicia, Parc Tramuntana in Catalonia and Parque Tarahal in the Canary Islands.
Plenitude's involvement aligns with the development approach of BlueFloat Energy and Sener Renewable Investments, prioritising environmental and social factors in project design and integrating the projects within local communities.
Plenitude manages 430MW of operational solar photovoltaic and onshore wind power in Spain, with a further 1GW of projects under construction and 2GW in the development pipeline.
It also manages a network of electric vehicle charging points and supplies electricity and energy services to 300,000 customers.
Globally, Plenitude's reach extends to 15 countries and its total renewable capacity in operation is 3GW.
The company has set ambitious targets of 7GW by 2026 and 15GW by 2030.
Plenitude CEO Stefano Goberti stated: “Thanks to this agreement, we strengthen our offshore wind portfolio and commitment to the renewables sector in Spain.
“We are glad to start this collaboration with BlueFloat and Sener Renewable Investments to contribute to the country's energy transition process through the innovative and high-potential technological solution of floating offshore wind.
“Growth in the renewables sector is central to Plenitude's strategy, in line with the company's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 and providing decarbonised energy to all its customers.”
BlueFloat Energy CEO Carlos Martín stated: “The agreement with Plenitude strengthens our consortium thanks to their solid track record in developing and executing renewable energy projects, financial strength and strong technical capabilities, which are highly complementary to BlueFloat Energy’s expertise in offshore wind and Sener’s engineering competences.
“With Plenitude on board, our projects take a significant step forward while consolidating our leading position in the offshore wind sector in our home market.”
In January 2024, BlueFloat Energy and Renantis submitted an environmental impact assessment to the Italian Government for the 1.3GW Odra Energia floating offshore wind project.
