PacificLight Power has secured the rights to construct a 600MW hydrogen-ready CCGT facility on Jurong Island in Singapore.
The Energy Market Authority (EMA) has awarded the company the opportunity to build, own and operate the new plant, with operations set to begin in January 2029.
This facility is said to be the "largest single" H-class CCGT in Singapore.
Strategically located on a greenfield site, the new plant will incorporate a large-scale BESS.
The selected site is not only ample for the construction of the first CCGT unit but also allows for the addition of a second unit and the potential integration of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology.
This reflects PacificLight Power's commitment to long-term decarbonisation and the adoption of innovative solutions that aim to enhance system reliability while reducing both operational costs and environmental impact.
Designed to be future-proof, the new facility will initially be capable of utilising at least 30% hydrogen and is engineered to transition to 100% hydrogen usage in the future.
It is expected to bolster Singapore's energy security, improve grid stability and support the country's shift to a lower carbon footprint.
The upcoming plant will complement PacificLight Power's existing 830MW CCGT plant, which has been operational since 2014, and 100MW of Fast Start capacity, which is currently under development and expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2025.
