Ocean Winds (OW) and Martifer Renewables & Energy have established a strategic partnership to bid in Portugal's inaugural tender for offshore wind farms in 2024.
The alliance will leverage OW's expertise in floating offshore wind farms such as the WindFloat Atlantic project, and Martifer Renewable & Energy's understanding of the Portuguese market.
Their collaborative efforts in developing floating offshore wind farms will help Portugal achieve its renewable energy target of 2GW by 2030.
As the industry awaits the tender's final criteria, OW and Martifer are formulating detailed proposals that incorporate contributions from key national suppliers and infrastructure.
OW South Europe country manager José Pinheiro stated: “Portugal is at a unique position of accelerating the development of the proven offshore wind technology off its coasts.
"We are thrilled to join forces with Martifer Renewables & Energy for the first historic tender.
"Ocean Winds has been developing and operating successfully the WindFloat Atlantic floating offshore wind farm from its operations and maintenance base in the port of Viana do Castelo.”
The collaboration is set to stimulate economic development, generate employment opportunities and introduce new technologies to the Portuguese offshore wind sector.
Martifer Group CEO Pedro Duarte stated: “We are glad to start this strategic partnership with Ocean Winds to participate in the first offshore wind farm tender in Portugal.
“This co-operation not only reinforces our commitment to sustainability, but also highlights our robust experience and know-how accumulated over the years in the energy sector. Ocean Winds has a unique track record and international expertise in offshore wind projects.
“Together, we will be able to deliver innovation and set new standards of excellence in the offshore wind sector, making a significant contribution to the country's energy transition.”
