Orlen Group’s subsidiary Energa Wytwarzanie and Northland Power have formed a new company, Baltic Offshore Service Solution, to provide offshore wind services in Poland.

The new venture will offer a suite of services encompassing technical, operational, commercial and contractual aspects.

It will also be responsible for managing Orlen Group's 24-hour wind farm management centre, which provides monitoring, coordination and control of the company's offshore assets.

The new entity's responsibilities will include the maintenance of wind farm components, ensuring the technical efficiency and availability of power machinery and equipment, and conducting technical inspections.

Baltic Offshore Service Solution will leverage Energa Wytwarzanie's experience in maintaining onshore renewable energy assets, including a portfolio of six wind farms with 244MW capacity.

Orlen energy executive director Jarosław Dybowski stated: “We are actively progressing with the Baltic Power project and plan to invest in projects with an additional five licences that are developed by Orlen Neptun.

“The potential for offshore power generation across the Baltic Sea is estimated to exceed 90GW, indicating a substantial growth trajectory for investments in this sector. At the Orlen Group, we are poised to capitalise on emerging business opportunities in the planning and operation of new wind farms.

“To this end, we will leverage our existing expertise from onshore projects, also drawing on the experience of our partner, a global leader in the offshore wind industry.”

The move comes as part of the broader Baltic Power offshore wind farm project, a joint venture between Orlen Group and Northland, which is expected to begin producing 1.2GW of clean energy by 2026.

Orlen took the final investment decision on the Baltic Power project in October 2023.

Polish and US leaders have recently met to discuss cooperating on nuclear energy.

Polish President Andrzej Duda, after meeting with US President Joe Biden, highlighted the country's intention to invest in nuclear energy to reduce carbon emissions and phase out coal, Reuters has reported.

The previous Polish Government selected Westinghouse Electric as the technology supplier for the country's first nuclear power plant, planned for the Baltic coast by 2033.

However, the current administration is re-evaluating the project's timeline after delays under the former government.
