Nordex Group has installed its first N175/6.X turbine at a community wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany to run tests.

Designed for medium and light wind sites, the turbine has a rotor-swept area of 24,053m² and a nominal capacity of 6.8MW.

The turbine's single-piece 86m-long rotor blade and rotor diameter of 175m are integral to its design, contributing to its high performance.

The installation marks a significant step in Nordex Group's efforts to optimise performance, particularly in light wind conditions.

The N175/6.X turbine will undergo extensive testing at the site to validate its power and sound measurements and mechanical loads for International Electrotechnical Commission-type certification.

The N175/6.X turbine is mounted on a tubular steel tower with a hub height of 112m. A second turbine of the same type is scheduled for installation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in late autumn 2024, to be set on a hybrid tower with a hub height of 179m, the tallest in Nordex's portfolio.

Nordex chief executive Josa Luis Blanco stated: "The installation of the first N175/6.X is an important milestone for Nordex.

“Our colleagues worked very hard and closely together to ensure the development and installation on schedule of this pilot turbine. The N175/6.X is another variant of our globally proven Delta4000 platform, using validated components.

“Thanks to the turbine's large rotor, we will be setting new standards onshore in Germany and Europe in terms of additional electricity yield, especially at times of light wind speeds.”

In March 2024, Nordex secured a contract from UAB Renerga to supply 40 turbines for a 264MW wind farm in Lithuania.
