Nordex secures 500MW turbine orders in Canada

Under the contract, Nordex will be supplying 74 of its N163 machines.

Nordex Group has announced receiving orders for wind turbines totalling 500MW for projects in Canada.

The orders include 74 of the company's N163 machines and service agreements spanning 15–30 years to accompany these orders.

The delivery of the turbines is scheduled for 2025 and 2026 for projects and customers that have not been disclosed.

Nordex noted that the turbines will be equipped with the Nordex Advanced Anti-Icing System for rotor blades to ensure their high availability during Canada's challenging winter months.

This system is designed to maintain the turbines' performance and reliability in the icy conditions that characterise Canadian winters.

To date, the Nordex Group has sold almost 1.2GW of turbines across Canada.

Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa said: “The projects are greatly important for our plans and activities in Canada. We are also supplying these turbines with both our proven Advanced Anti-icing System for rotor blades and as cold climate versions.

“Both are decisive options for the additional yield of the turbines in cold seasons, which we have been using in Northern Europe for many years.

“Canadian customers are now also benefitting from this wealth of experience alongside our proven technology."

In July this year, Nordex Group installed its first N175/6.X turbine at a community wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, to conduct testing.

Intended for medium and light wind locations, the turbine features a rotor-swept area of 24,053m² and a nominal capacity of 6.8MW.

The turbine's single-piece rotor blade, measuring 86m in length, along with its rotor diameter of 175m, are essential to its design and to enhance its performance.
