Mirion Technologies has secured two significant contracts to provide advanced radiation safety solutions for the Sizewell C nuclear power station, a new 3.2GW project in the UK.

The contracts support the construction of the project, which will power six million homes.

Mirion Technologies group president Loïc Eloy stated: “We are excited to be a part of the Sizewell C project, a pivotal development in the commitment to a sustainable energy future for the UK.”

The first contract, awarded in October 2024, is for the supply of electrical penetration systems - essential for the secure passage of cables through the containment walls of the reactor.

These systems provide a reliable seal and ensure uninterrupted electrical circuits, even in unexpected situations.

Mirion's EPS solutions are designed to maintain the safe containment of the reactor building while allowing the flow of information from inside to outside the reactor.

Sizewell C programme manager Fernando Tiefensee stated: “We have confidence in Mirion’s ability to deliver top-end systems that integrate seamlessly with advanced European pressurised reactor (EPR) technology and replicate Hinkley Point design.

“This partnership underscores our mutual commitment to advancing safe, reliable energy solutions and solidifies our role in helping achieve the UK's energy generation goals.

“We are eager to continue our collaboration, contributing to sustainable and reliable energy solutions for the future.”

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) granted Sizewell C a nuclear site licence in May 2024, allowing the installation and operation of a power station at the site.

Sizewell C will leverage UK-based integrated energy company EDF’s expertise and EPR technology to generate low-carbon electricity.

In September 2024, the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announced a new £5.5bn ($6.07bn) subsidy scheme to support the Sizewell C nuclear power plant through a final investment decision.
