Meta Platforms has signed four agreements with Chicago-based energy company Invenergy for 760MW of renewable energy.

The environmental attribute purchase agreements (EAPAs) bring Meta's total clean energy procurement from Invenergy to above 1GW.

Meta head of global energy Urvi Parekh stated: “Surpassing the 1GW milestone in renewable energy procurement from Invenergy is a testament to Meta’s commitment to matching our growing power needs with clean energy.”

“We’re grateful for Invenergy’s long-term collaboration. These projects will help us continue our commitment to support all of our operations with 100% clean energy.”

The agreements cover four solar energy centres developed by Invenergy across the US.

Hardin II Solar in Ohio with a capacity of 150MW is expected to be operational in 2024. The 150MW Delilah II Solar in Texas is expected to commence operation in 2025.

Tip Top Solar in New Mexico with a capacity of 110MW is expected to be operational in 2026 and Chalk Bluff Solar in Arkansas with a nameplate capacity of 350MW is expected to be commissioned in 2027.

The electricity produced will be supplied to the local grid, boosting regional reliability by delivering power to nearby homes and businesses.

Meta will benefit by receiving clean energy credits for bringing new generation capacity online.

Invenergy executive vice-president of origination Ted Romaine stated: “Energy demand is soaring — and Invenergy is excited to work with Meta to deliver long-term, clean energy solutions to support their operations.

“As the largest privately held clean energy owner, operator and developer, we’re pleased that Invenergy’s utility-scale solar projects can contribute to meeting Meta’s clean energy goals, while also providing good-paying jobs and generating millions in local economic benefits.”

The company and its affiliates develop, build, own and operate large-scale renewable energy generation, transmission and storage facilities across the Americas, Europe and Asia.
