Spanish renewables developer Matrix Renewables has bought a controlling stake in the 200MW Pleasant Valley solar project in Ada County, Idaho, from rPlus Energies.
The energy generated from the solar project will be supplied to the Idaho Power grid that will support Facebook parent company Meta’s new data centre in Kuna, Idaho.
Construction of the project will begin in the third quarter of 2023.
A total of 220 jobs will be created during the construction phase, which will involve the participation of a number of local vendors.
Matrix Renewables US head and managing director Cindy Tindell stated: “We are very pleased with the acquisition of the Pleasant Valley Solar Project and look forward to beginning construction and finalising project financing over the coming months.
“We highly value rPlus as a partner, including the deep connection with the community that they bring to the table. Matrix is excited to be part of this landmark project in Idaho.”
rPlus Energies president and CEO Luigi Resta stated: “This project represents a significant investment in the region’s energy independence and continued economic development. Both companies are committed to growing and partnering with the Ada County community as this solar project is brought online and through the lifespan of the project.”
In May 2023, rPlus Energies entered a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the solar project through a negotiated process with Meta and Idaho Power. The PPA will support Meta’s aim of running 100% of its operations with renewable energy.
