Kenya Electricity Transmission has entered into a public-private partnership (PPP) with Indian conglomerate Adani Group and Africa50, an infrastructure investment platform of the African Development Bank, Bloomberg has reported.

The partnership, valued at $1.3bn, will enhance the country's power transmission infrastructure.

David Ndii, chief economic adviser to Kenya's President William Ruto, confirmed the awarding of the concession to build power transmission lines.

The strategic move is expected to significantly improve the power distribution network in Kenya.

In related news, Adani Power and Adani Green Energy have secured a contract to provide 6.6GW of combined renewable and thermal power to the state of Maharashtra in India up to 2047, Reuters has reported.

The development marks a significant milestone for the Adani subsidiaries, expanding their footprint in the region.

Since March 2023, Adani Green Energy's wind-solar plant located in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, has been supplying green energy to Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra.

Adani Green Energy is set to supply 5GW of solar power from its renewable energy park in Khavda, Kutch district, Gujarat as part of the agreement.

Additionally, Adani Power will contribute 1.6GW of thermal power from a new plant.

The Maharashtra state electricity distribution company has issued a letter of intent to Adani Power for the project. Separate agreements will be signed with Adani Power and Adani Green Energy for the supply of thermal and solar power, respectively.
