Rosatom’s wind power division, JSC NovaWind, has announced a letter of intent (Lol) with the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund for the construction of a wind project.

The two parties agreed to develop and implement an investment project in the region.

With an installed capacity of 100MW, the wind project is planned for the Issyk-Kul region of the Kyrgyz Republic.

JSC NovaWind director-general Grigory Nazarov stated: "We have extensive experience in the construction and operation of wind farms.

“Nine wind power plants are already successfully operating in three regions in southern Russia. The total capacity of the company's realised wind power projects reached 1GW.

“Specialists of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom will make every effort to effectively contribute to addressing the energy deficit of the Republic.”

Nazarov further stated that Rosatom aims to build renewable energy projects in the Kyrgyz Republic and also intends to develop cooperation with friendly countries.

Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund Board chairman Artem Novikov stated: “Recently, the fund has accumulated significant competencies in the implementation of projects. Today we have seven projects in this area with a total capacity of 500MW in our portfolio.

“Among them are the construction of five small hydroelectric power plants (HPPs), the reconstruction of one small HPP and the construction of a 100MW HPP.

“The project for the construction of a solar power plant in the Issyk-Kul region is under way. Kyrgyzstan has a huge reserve of resources for RE development.

“The current decisions taken by the Cabinet of the Republic will enable the development of renewable energy sources at an accelerated pace.”
