Energy and marine consultancy ABL, part of the ABL Group, has secured a contract to provide marine warranty survey (MWS) services for Iberdrola's 315MW Windanker offshore wind farm. The facility will be located 25km offshore Germany in the Baltic Sea.

ABL Germany, located in Hamburg, will support the offshore transportation and installation of foundations, inter-array cables and wind turbine generators.

The 315MW Windanker project will comprise 21 turbines, each with 15MW capacity.

The installation activities are scheduled for 2025 and 2026, with project commissioning anticipated by the end of 2026.

ABL Group CEO Reuben Segal stated: “We are pleased to support Iberdrola in their construction of Germany’s all-important Windanker offshore wind farm. This follows on from ABL’s previous collaboration with Iberdrola in Germany on the Baltic Eagle project – reflecting our successful working relationship and the value we are able to bring to Germany’s growing offshore wind market.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to continue applying our technical know-how and track record in offshore wind to drive the continued expansion of Germany’s renewable energy generation.”

ABL's scope of work involves the delivery of expert technical review and approval of documents, operations and vessels related to the warranted assets.

This ensures that all aspects of the installation process meet the necessary standards and requirements.

In a related development, Iberdrola has signed a power purchase agreement with leading ceramics company Gres Panaria Portugal.

Commencing in 2025, the agreement will guarantee the supply of photovoltaic solar energy for ten years to Gres Panaria, providing 92 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean energy over the contract term.

The PPA will enable Gres Panaria to reduce its carbon footprint and support sustainable practices - crucial in an industry with increasing environmental responsibility.

It also offers energy supply stability, mitigating risks and effects of energy market volatility and ensuring consistent electricity costs.
