Tech giant Google has unveiled two key partnerships in India with Adani and CleanMax, aimed at bolstering the Indian power grid with an additional renewable energy capacity.

This move aligns with Google's strategy to decarbonise its cloud services and office operations across India, contributing to its 2030 target for 24/7 carbon-free energy.

The collaboration with CleanMax involves the development of a 125.4MW project, which includes 66MW of solar power in Rajasthan and 59.4MW of wind power in Karnataka.

The commencement of commercial operations is anticipated by the fourth quarter of 2025.

Google's partnership with the Adani Group will facilitate energy procurement from a new solar-wind hybrid project.

This project is part of a grand 30GW renewable energy plant located in Khavda, Gujarat, which is recognised as the world's largest renewable energy initiative.

Adani has projected that this project will be operational by the third quarter of 2025.

Google Asia Pacific Clean Energy and Power head Giorgio Fortunato said: “This landmark initiative supports Google’s sustainable growth in India and underscores Google’s commitment to source clean energy for our operations in every grid where we operate.

“We believe in the power of meaningful strategic collaborations to drive true impact and transition to resilient low-carbon systems to continue operating our businesses sustainably.”

In August this year, Swift Current Energy secured a tax equity investment from tech giant Google for its 800MW DC Double Black Diamond Solar project in southern Illinois, US, which had a capacity of 593MW AC.

Google's investment took advantage of the benefits provided by the Inflation Reduction Act, which included incentives for energy communities and domestic content.
