GE Vernova's Grid Solutions business has partnered with industrial cybersecurity provider Dragos to offer advanced cybersecurity solutions to grid automation customers.

Dragos will be responsible for enhancing the cyber defence capabilities of GE Vernova's grid automation customers by providing them with comprehensive operational technology (OT) cybersecurity solutions.

Together, the two teams will integrate products and technologies to provide more sophisticated functions.

A key feature is comprehensive asset visibility in which Dragos' threat intelligence and incident response services will be integrated with GE Vernova's technology to improve visibility into OT assets across industrial energy environments.

This integration will focus on enabling organisations to better monitor assets, track vulnerabilities and utilise network monitoring to investigate issues and incidents.

Dragos' OT threat intelligence and real-time monitoring system will provide advanced threat detection and monitoring capabilities as a critical aspect of the partnership.

The collaboration will also focus on augmenting rapid incident response. Dragos' incident response expertise, combined with GE Vernova's cybersecurity offerings, will enable critical infrastructure providers to respond quickly to threats, minimising downtime and maintaining operational continuity.

Dragos threat intelligence allows GE Vernova to offer its customers insights into adversary threats, malware and vulnerabilities that could impact the industrial sector.

GE Vernova grid solutions business grid automation chief technology officer Claudia Cosoreanu stated: “We are dedicated to providing cybersecurity products, solutions and services that help our customers protect their digital substations and other OT environments from cyber threats.

“Our partnership with Dragos combines decades of industry-leading expertise in industrial cybersecurity and grid solutions, empowering our customers to defend against cyber threats and strengthen their cybersecurity posture.”

In January 2024, GE Vernova and Japanese engineering giant IHI agreed to advance the development of a new gas turbine combustor that uses ammonia as fuel.

The initiative aligns with the global shift towards reducing carbon emissions in the power sector.

The two companies will develop the next phase of technology and engineering for the gas turbine combustion system, which will be compatible with GE Vernova’s 6F.03, 7F and 9F gas turbines.
