JSW Energy, an Indian power generation company, has placed an order with Chinese wind turbine maker Envision Energy to supply turbines for its 653.4MW wind farm, Moneycontrol has reported.
Envision has agreed to supply 198 EN 156-3.3 MW turbines for the project.
To be located in the Indian states of Karnataka and Maharashtra, the wind farm will be built in phases and completed by the end of 2024. It will generate 2.2TW of clean energy, which will contribute significantly to India’s net-zero emissions goal.
Turbine components including nacelles and hubs will be assembled at Envision’s facility in Pune, Maharashtra, while the blades will be produced at its facility in Trichy, Tamil Nadu.
Each turbine will have a rotor diameter of 156m, a hub height of 140m and a power-generating capacity of 3.3MW.
Moneycontrol quoted Envision Energy global vice-president Kane Xu as stating: “It has become critical to collaborate for accelerating green energy transition to avert the climate crisis. This partnership is a testament to our commitment to solving the challenges for a sustainable future.”
Envision Wind Power Technologies India CEO RPV Prasad was quoted by SME Street as saying: “It is a really happy moment for us as we partner with JSW Energy to leverage India’s wind energy potential in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
“The booming Indian wind energy landscape would play a pivotal role in propelling the country towards net zero.”
Envision has commissioned 330MW of wind farms in India and has orders for a further 4.7GW.
To cater to the orders, its nacelle and hub facility in Pune has 3GW of production capacity, while its blade factory in Tamil Nadu has 2.5GW of capacity.
