EnBW has announced the completion of foundation installations at the 960MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

The installation was accomplished using the Thialf, one of the world's largest floating cranes, operated by Heerema.

Over three months, the Thialf crane drove the monopiles into the seabed, laying the groundwork for the next construction phase.

Each of the 64 steel foundations measures 70m in length, with a 9.2m diameter and a weight of 1,350t.

Transition pieces have been placed on top of the monopiles, serving as connectors to the wind turbine towers.

He Dreiht wind farm is located 85km northwest of Borkum and 110km west of Heligoland.

The construction site has seen more than 500 people working at peak times, with 60 ships utilised to complete the foundation installation.

From spring 2025, EnBW will commence the installation of 15MW wind turbines supplied by Vestas.

The wind farm will begin operations by the end of 2025, providing enough electricity to power 1.1 million households.

EnBW secured the contract for the He Dreiht project in the first offshore tender in Germany in 2017.

The project will operate without the need for state subsidies.

In July 2024, EnBW began constructing a 72MW hybrid energy park in Gundelsheim, Germany.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the solar/wind hybrid facility, featuring a battery storage system, was attended by local dignitaries.

The solar segment of the park, currently under construction, will include 110,000 solar modules. With a capacity of 60.5MW, the solar park will produce enough electricity to power 23,900 households.
