Spanish clean energy company Ecoener has committed to invest €300m ($324m) in the Greek renewables market through its 350MW portfolio.

The company is developing the renewable energy portfolio through its subsidiary, Ecoener Hellas, which was established in Greece in March 2023.

The Greek Government recently issued the first administrative licence for the initial ten projects that Ecoener intends to develop in the country.

The portfolio comprises two advanced projects: a 42MW wind farm and a 50MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant.

The projects are expected to be ready for construction by the end of 2025 and are scheduled for grid connection in the first half of 2027.

The company has eight more solar PV projects with a combined capacity of 272MW.

These projects have also received initial licensing and will be construction-ready in the first half of 2026.

The eight solar plants will also feature battery storage systems to enhance their integration into the Greek electricity grid.

The planned facilities will be located in Epirus, Central Greece, Thessaly and Western and Central Macedonia.

Ecoener CEO Luis de Valdivia stated: “We appreciate the confidence of the Greek Government in Ecoener’s projects. It is a country where we intend to stay and increase the number of megawatts of renewable energy.”

The company stated that its interest in the Greek market is driven by the country's extensive experience in renewable energy.

Greece's National Energy and Climate Plan aims for 23.5GW of installed capacity by 2030, which would constitute 44% of the nation's total power production.

Ecoener's presence extends beyond Greece, with operational offices in other European countries such as Italy, Poland and Romania.
