Ukrainian energy investor the DTEK Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GE Vernova for the development of wind power generation projects in Ukraine and the European Union (EU).

The partnership, signed at the Ukraine Recovery Conference, will facilitate collaborative efforts in renewable energy and grid infrastructure enhancement.

The MoU encompasses the exploration of modern solutions for upgrading Ukraine's electricity grid.

The companies aim to improve supply reliability, reduce energy losses and establish a network that is adaptable to future energy demands.

DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko stated: “GE Vernova and DTEK have a strong history together and I am confident that today’s agreement marks the start of a much broader relationship in Ukraine and across the EU – from grids and wind power to gas turbines and small modular reactors.

“Together our two companies can play a pivotal role in the urgent task of restoring Ukraine’s energy infrastructure today, while also creating a clean and resilient energy system for the future.”

The latest agreement builds upon a history of successful joint ventures between DTEK and GE Vernova.

Between 2018 and 2019, the two companies commissioned the 200MW Prymorska wind farm near Zaporizhzhia.

DTEK has also been working with GE Vernova's electrification business on power distribution grid solutions and renewable energy projects in Ukraine.

In March 2023, DTEK finished the first phase of the Tyligulska wind power plant in Ukraine.

Located in the Mykolaiv region, the first phase has 19 wind turbines and 114MW capacity. The completed project will have 500MW, and will support Ukraine’s energy balance.
