Donald Trump on the cusp of victory in 2024 US Election

Kamala Harris did not address her supporters before leaving her election night party.

Ed Pearcey November 06 2024

Former US President Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 Election, in speech to his supporters in Florida, claiming the electorate had given America “an unprecedented and powerful mandate.”

The Republican candidate has already won three of the crucial battleground states – North Carolina, Georgia and crucially Pennsylvania, with its 19 electoral college votes.

This places him at 266 votes, four votes short of a winning score.

But with two other key states – Arizona and Michigan – leaning heavily in Trump’s favour, his victory seems certain. Trump has also seemingly won the popular vote.

Several UK news outlets reported that oil prices had fallen by 2% on Wednesday morning, as the dollar strengthened on news of Trump's expected victory.

Several US news outlets, most notably Fox News, have already called the election for Trump. However, his victory is still to be officially confirmed, and may not be for several hours.

Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, has yet to speak publicly about the result, and did not address her supporters before leaving her election night party.

In his speech, Trump thanked the “American people for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president.”

Trump praised his running mate, JD Vance, who himself said Trump had pulled off “the greatest political comeback in American history.”

Trump also said Elon Musk was “an amazing guy.”
