Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has received orders worth Rs70bn ($837m) from Adani Power for the construction of two thermal power plants in India.

The state-owned enterprise will be responsible for the manufacture, supply and commissioning of the main plant equipment for both projects.

The first of the two orders is for the 2x800MW Raipur supercritical thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh, awarded by Adani Power Limited.

The second order, from MTEUPPL, a subsidiary of Adani Power, is for the 2x800 MW Mirzapur supercritical thermal power plant in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

BHEL's role extends to the manufacture and supply of key equipment, including steam generators, steam turbines and generators, which will be produced at the company's facilities in Trichy and Haridwar.

BHEL will also oversee the erection and commissioning of the plants.

In January 2024, BHEL received an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from NLC India to construct a 2.4GW thermal power plant in the Indian state of Odisha.

The contract encompasses the engineering, procurement and construction of the plant in the Jharsuguda district.

BHEL will deliver boilers, turbines, generators and auxiliary systems. The boilers will have biomass co-firing capabilities.

BHEL, one of the major engineering and manufacturing companies in the energy, industry and infrastructure sectors, operates under the Ministry of Heavy Industries.

BHEL has so far received orders for 73 sets of supercritical steam generators and 68 sets of supercritical turbine generators in the country.
