German energy company BayWa r.e. has announced the sale of its Spanish solar park Almodóvar to independent power producer Encavis.

Situated in Andalucía near the city of Córdoba, the 95MW solar farm will be connected to the grid by the fourth quarter of 2025.

BayWa r.e. CEO Matthias Taft stated: “We are delighted to announce the successful sale of yet another solar park developed by our team in Spain. Almodóvar is part of the continued project sales we will be delivering in Europe over the coming months.

“The energy transition is accelerating by the day, and we are well positioned to drive further growth in wind, solar and battery storage projects.”

The solar farm, which will play a significant role in Spain's energy transition, has an annual generation capacity of 187 gigawatt hours.

Following the recent sale of the 109MW Lirios solar farm, this transaction represents another milestone in the continued collaboration between BayWa r.e. and Encavis.

BayWa r.e. Spain projects managing director Juanjo Álvarez stated: “We have been active in the Spanish market for more than ten years and have realised over 600MW of wind and solar projects there.

“It is one of the key markets for BayWa r.e. and we will continue to play a leading role in advancing the energy transition in Spain and beyond.”

In 2021, BayWa r.e. signed a ten-year virtual power purchase agreement with the Finnish packaging solutions provider Huhtamaki, specifically involving renewable energy sourced from the Almodóvar project.

The agreement for two Spanish solar farms covers 80% of Huhtamaki's electricity requirements across Europe.
