Aspiravi Offshore, a subsidiary of Aspiravi Group, has acquired the 30% stake in the 216MW Northwind offshore wind farm held by Parkwind.

Following the deal, Aspiravi, which already held a 40% interest in the project, now own a 70% stake.

Japanese conglomerate Sumitomo owns the remaining 30%.

The deal follows the acquisition of Parkwind by Japan's JERA from Virya Energy for €1.55bn (Y11.09bn) in July 2023.

Aspiravi acquired the stake by exercising its rights in accordance with contractual provisions. Sumitomo decided not to exercise its pre-emption right.

The Northwind wind farm has been operational since 2014. It is situated on the Lodewijk Bank, around 37km off the Belgian coast in the North Sea.

It features 72 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 216MW. The energy produced by Northwind is sufficient to power around 250,000 homes and contributes to a reduction of 309,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

Aspiravi Group's investment portfolio in renewable energy extends beyond Northwind. The group also holds shares in other offshore wind projects including Rentel and SeaMade, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy generation.

Parkwind co-CEO Francois van Leeuw said: “Parkwind, as an early mover in offshore wind in Belgium and still one of the leading investors and service providers to the Belgian offshore wind industry, remains committed to deliver clean and sustainable offshore wind energy to Belgian households and businesses.

“We today safely and efficiently operate 201 turbines in the Belgian North Sea, and we are fully committed to continuing to lead Belgium’s energy transition and look forward to engaging in future projects.”
