Norway-based Aker Solutions has secured a contract to undertake front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the Haewoori Offshore Wind 2 and 3 projects.
The contract was granted by CIP, the developer of the wind farms.
To be located offshore Ulsan, South Korea, each will have a capacity of 500MW.
Aker Solutions will oversee the design and delivery of floating foundation structures for the two projects.
The company will also manage the front-end engineering design of components including the inter-array cable and the marshalling port, along with wind turbine integration and the transport and installation processes.
Principle Power, operating as a subcontractor, will be responsible for the design of the floating platforms and mooring system, utilising its WindFloat technology.
Aker Solutions will leverage Principle Power's expertise in floating wind technology to ensure the success of the Haewoori projects.
The transportation and installation design will be executed by Windstaller Alliance, a joint venture that includes Aker Solutions, DeepOcean and Solstad Offshore.
The FEED work's completion target is set for November 2024.
The three Haewoori floating offshore wind farms will generate a combined 1.5GW of capacity.

In January 2024, the company announced that it will pilot a new subsea power system to connect offshore wind turbines at the Marine Energy Test Centre in Norway.
The new system will cut costs while simplifying the construction of offshore wind farms.
