The Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines, through Proinversión, has granted an Acciona-led consortium three new power transmission concession projects in Peru.

The projects will involve the installation of more than 400km of transmission lines, the establishment of six new substations, and the modernisation of six existing ones.

The estimated investment for the initiatives is $337m (€315m).

The initiatives are set to improve the lives of one million residents in the southern Ica and Arequipa regions, while also supporting the integration of 10GW of renewable energy sources into the local grid.

The facilities involved are the new Poroma hub, the Colectora substations and the 500kV hub in Ica connecting Poroma to Colectora.

The San José hub substation, 220kV San José-Repartición hub link in Arequipa, the Marcona II, San Isidro and Pampa substations and the 138kV Marcona II-San Isidro (Bella Unión)-Pampa (Chala) link are integral to the awarded contracts.

Each of the three projects is scheduled for 50 months of construction followed by 30 years of operation and maintenance.

The reorganisation was in response to the prevailing domestic market conditions. The decision to scale back came just over two years after Acciona had entered the Brazilian power generation market.

The downsizing has been attributed to difficulties in establishing new power generation projects, which have been impacted by low electricity prices and high debt and equipment costs.

The corporation is cutting down its 40-person renewable energy team in Brazil to only five or six workers.
