UK solar development company Lightsource BP has begun the commercial operation of its 40MW project in the Polish village of Kotuń.
The milestone represents the start of a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) between Lightsource BP and Microsoft, aimed at helping the tech giant to use 100% renewable energy by 2025. The PPA was signed in September 2023.
The 76,0000sqm facility will also help to drive decarbonisation in Poland, with its output sufficient to power in the region of 30,000 homes.
Michal Glowacki, country head for Poland at Lightsource BP, said: “Solar energy has a huge role to play in Poland's energy transition and the solar projects we are developing are part of this historic transformation. The Kotuń solar farm reaching commercial operation is our first significant contribution to the country’s decarbonisation targets.”
Lightsource BP has been present in Poland since 2020, and it has a 3.2GW project pipeline in the country.
