Renewable energy company Zelestra has secured a firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) contract with Indian public sector company Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) to develop a 500MW hybrid project in Solapur, Maharashtra.
The project will feature 250MWdc (megawatts defined conditions) of solar, 180MW of wind power and a 90 megawatt hours (MWh) battery energy storage system.
Zelestra will develop, construct, own and operate the project, ensuring the supply of clean energy during peak demand hours.
The project will become operational in 2027.
Zelestra India CEO Sajay KV stated: “We are very proud of signing this major contract with SJVN. This is a transformational project that will combine solar, wind and battery storage to deliver clean energy at all points of the day in Maharashtra, including the critical peak hours when homes and businesses need reliable electricity the most.
“This is our first and largest multi-technology project win achieved in a single bid. Leveraging our robust technical expertise, we have intentionally transitioned from pure-play renewable projects to more complex and reliable green power solutions which can address the growing decarbonisation demands of industrial units and data centres nationwide.”
The combined annual electricity generation of the project will exceed 815 gigawatt hours (GWh), meeting the needs of 225,000 Indian households and saving approximately 0.7 million tonnes (mt) of CO₂ emissions annually.
Zelestra’s India portfolio now includes more than 5.4GW of clean energy projects across seven states.
Zelestra recently signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tesla in Spain for a 57 megawatts alternating current (MWac) renewable energy supply.
The PPA will see Tesla receive an annual energy supply of 130GWh sourced from three solar plants, Brazatortas I, II and IV, to be built in Ciudad Real.
