Scotland-based energy services company Wood has secured a framework contract to provide technical consulting services to support the Power Africa initiative by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
The Power Africa programme is designed to expand electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa, where two out of three people lack access to power.
The five-year framework deal, which has an aggregate maximum value of $900m for the multiple awardees, is expected to be completed by 2025.
The programme is a partnership between the US and African governments, the private sector, international organisations, non-governmental organisations, and bilateral and multilateral partners.
Through Power Africa, installed energy capacity is expected to be increased by 30,000MW, and create 60 million new connections to double access to electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030.
During a ten-year partnership, the company’s environment and infrastructure solutions (E&IS) business has completed work for USAID in the Middle East, South East Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
