Danish wind turbine maker Vestas has secured a 144MW wind turbine order from the South African registered renewable energy company African Clean Energy Developments (ACED).

The order was placed for the Umsinde Emoyeni wind farm, planned in Western Cape, South Africa.

Turbine delivery is anticipated in the first half of 2025, with commissioning scheduled for the first half of 2026.

ACED procurement and construction project manager Sam Cook stated: “ACED and African Infrastructure Investment Managers have a relationship with Vestas which goes back to the beginning of the wind energy industry in South Africa, in 2011.

“We are very pleased to be placing yet another order with Vestas, in service of our offtaker Sibanye Stillwater, our shareholders and the communities around our project.”

Vestas has also received a 114MW order from SAB WindTeam for the Ahlum-Dettum wind energy project in Lower Saxony, Germany.

The order is for 17 V162-6.2MW and two V136-4.2MW wind turbines, and includes supply, delivery and commissioning.

Vestas will provide a 25-year AOM [Active Output Management] 5000 service agreement to ensure the turbines’ optimised performance.

Turbine delivery for the German project is expected to commence in the second quarter of 2025, with commissioning set for completion in the fourth quarter of the same year.

Vestas Northern and Central Europe Sales Central vice-president Sulai Fahimi stated: “This order from our valued customer SAB WindTeam is proof of the efficient technology of our EnVentus platform.

“We are delighted that our turbine portfolio offers the perfect fit for the site in Ahlum, providing high annual production and at the same time lowest levelised cost of energy.

“I would like to thank SAB WindTeam for choosing Vestas as the supplier for realising one of the largest projects in Germany and look forward to a successful future collaboration.”

In June 2024 Vestas obtained a contract from Vattenfall and BASF to supply 112 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines for the Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind projects in Germany.
