French oil and gas company TotalEnergies has agreed to provide renewable energy for Amazon’s operations in a strategic collaboration with the e-commerce giant.
The company will supply 474MW of renewable energy for Amazon’s US and Europe operations under a power purchase agreement, with the partners also expecting to expand their cooperation in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions.

By delivering energy and potential battery energy solutions, TotalEnergies aims to support Amazon’s commitments to powering its operations with fully clean energy by 2030 and reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Amazon also intends to help TotalEnergies fast-track its digital transformation through its Amazon Web Services (AWS) subsidiary.
TotalEnergies Gas, Renewables and Power president Stéphane Michel said: “By signing this agreement, we are proud to enter into this key collaboration with Amazon and to accompany them on their journey to carbon neutrality.
“We are also counting on Amazon and AWS to help us advance our exponential shift in the speed, scale and advancement of digitalisation.”
TotalEnergies plans to accelerate its shift to Cloud computing technology to boost its IT transformation, the digitisation of its operations and its digital innovation.
AWS claims that its services will benefit TotalEnergies’ Digital Factory by offering infrastructure, speed, reliability and innovation.
TotalEnergies will also assess AWS’s computing technology to expedite its critical workflows, as well as innovation across its businesses worldwide.

“This collaboration will not only accelerate TotalEnergies’ migration to the Cloud but also contribute toward Amazon’s commitment to powering our operations with fully renewable energy.”
Last month, Amazon announced plans to buy power generated by 14 new solar and wind power projects across the US, Spain, Canada and Finland.
