Integrated energy solutions supplier Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions (Toshiba ESS) has signed a non-exclusive cooperation agreement with wind turbine manufacturer Senvion to market, sell, install and operate Senvion wind turbines to support Japanese wind power.
Under the agreement, Toshiba ESS will be responsible for customer interface and installation, while Senvion will provide turbine technology, operation and maintenance services and technical support.
The companies under the strategic alliance will focus on onshore and offshore wind projects in the country.
Toshiba ESS corporate senior vice-president Fumio Otani said: “Senvion is a logical partner for us, with a proven track record of delivery in Japan and the right technology and service solutions for the Japanese market.
“We are excited about this new agreement with Senvion, which will mean that we are strategically placed to increase our share of the wind energy market in Japan.”
Senvion executive director and chief sales officer David Hardy said: “We are delighted to have entered into an agreement with Toshiba ESS to work together to deliver tailored wind energy solutions in Japan.

Senvion has been active in the Japanese wind power market since 2003, and has installed 17 wind farms. A further three projects are currently under construction.
The new agreement is expected to provide an additional channel for wind farm customers to access Senvion technology and services.
Meanwhile, Toshiba ESS secured a contract to retrofit steam turbine under a fuel conversion project for Unit 2 at Kansai Electric Power’s Aioi Power Station in Hyogo, Japan.
Toshiba ESS secured the contract from the Aioi Bioenergy Corporation, a special purpose company funded by Kansai Electric Power Co (KEPCO) and Mitsubishi Corporation Power.
Toshiba ESS will begin delivering main components in 2021. The total retrofit work will be completed by early 2023.
Earlier this month, Senvion received a long-term ISP contract from SSE to service four of the utility company’s wind farms in the north of Scotland, UK.
Under the contract, Senvion will offer full-service support for 107 of its MM82 turbines across the four farms.
