Tekmar Energy has delivered cable protection systems (CPS) for the installation of 200 miles (328 km) of 66KV inter-array cables at Dogger Bank A. This is a crucial phase in the construction of the world’s largest offshore wind farm on the east coast of England.
The sophisticated operation involves DEME Offshore’s cable-laying vessel Viking Neptun and burial operations by the Living Stone.
The network will comprise 95 cables, some running 8.6 miles (13.8 km), linking Dogger Bank A’s 95 Haliade-X 13MW turbines to the offshore converter station.
The generated electricity is converted to direct current through an advanced high-voltage direct current system, then transmitted to the onshore converter station.
Tekmar Energy’s role has been pivotal, providing the cable protection systems that shield the inter-array cables from damage and ensure their long-term reliability.
Tekmar Energy managing director Marc Bell stated, “We are incredibly proud to support the Dogger Bank wind farm with our advanced cable protection systems. This project showcases our commitment to innovation and excellence in the offshore wind sector. The successful completion of this phase is a testament to our strong partnership and collaborative effort.”

By GlobalDataTekmar Group’s business unit, RYDER, undertook the Orcaflex analysis and geotechnical design for the project. This ensured optimal protection and installation of the cables in challenging offshore conditions.
Tekmar Energy project manager Liam Bettinson stated, “Providing the cable protection systems for the Dogger Bank A installation phase is a remarkable achievement for our team. It required meticulous planning, innovative engineering and flawless execution. I am proud of our team’s dedication and the successful collaboration with our partners, which has laid a strong foundation for the subsequent phases of Dogger Bank B and C.”
The installation followed extensive underwater surveys to secure a clear cable-laying corridor, marking a major achievement in the inter-array cable installation programme – the largest of its kind in offshore wind energy to date.
